"Winning the Robert Juniper Award for the Arts has been a game-changer for me as an independent artist, providing both financial support and transformative recognition.

It has been an honor to be recognized by such an esteemed group of individuals from my community, and their support has greatly encouraged me to continue pursuing my artistic practice.

The award is a testament to the importance of supporting and nurturing young artistic voices, providing a supported platform for artists to tell stories and make work.

I am thrilled to have been a part of this initiative and excited to see the incredible works of art that future recipients will create."

Tim van der Kuil

Tim van der Kuil 1988

“It’s hard forging a career in the arts, let alone doing it while living in the Perth hills.” recalls Tim. “The scholarship enabled me to buy equipment that I wouldn’t have been able to afford otherwise. This helped me to play professionally and make the move into playing gigs in the city, as until then I had only been playing locally.” Read more about Tim and his career working with artists such as Adele, Sia, Taylor Swift, Robbie Williams and more.

Our History

On the 30th April, 1987 a Deed of Trust was drawn up and named the Mundaring Bicentennial Scholarship Trust. Its purpose was to empower a group of trustees to provided financial assistance to deserving young artists within the Shire of Mundaring in Western Australia.

Two of the nine current trustees have been within the organisation since its inception. None of the trustees is involved in the judging which is carried out each year by an independent panel of artists chosen according to the interests of the applicants.

Prominent Darlington artist, Bob Juniper agreed to be the first Trust patron. Bob traditionally presented the scholarships each year. Sadly Bob passed away on 20 December 2012. In 2022 Bob’s widow Patricia Juniper, gallery director of Juniper Galleries, kindly accepted the Trust’s invitation to become co-patron with RJAFTA Emeritus Patron Richard Woldendorp AM. Richard is an internationally acclaimed photographer and long-time Shire of Mundaring resident, and a Bob Juniper contemporary. Please read more about Richard on our Friends Page.
